Evaluating my GAME Plan: week 5

As I work through my GAME Plan I have learned several things about myself as a teacher:
Goal 1: Working on learning about and checking my digital etiquette has been quite interesting. I have learned that I don’t always double check my emails before hitting the send button. Sometimes I am in such a hurry to respond or send a message that I have sent messages that don’t always have the best/most professional tone to them. Also when compiling information to use in my lessons such as PowerPoints I do not always cite the sources where I found pictures or other information. I have not been properly giving credit to fellow colleagues when I “borrow” their worksheets, test/quizzes, or PowerPoints either.

Goal 2: I have started to use and learn about different technology in my classroom. My students have been using my Grade Cam for assessments the past few weeks and I am planning on incorporating the answer scan on their worksheets for the last few days of school as well. This is something I will incorporate at the beginning of the school year next year so that my students are able to take advantage of the Grade Cam all year. I have also signed up for a Smart Board class during our professional growth academy. Since one is being installed in my room I want to be able to use it to its fullest capabilities. I will also be taking several Read 180 classes to see how I can use this program with students who are not in the Read 180 class.

I am still feeling comfortable with my goals; although I wish I had more time to spend working on meeting them. I am also excited to see how my progress with these two areas helps the learning environment for my students next school year.

  1. What is the grade cam? Sounds like you are taking steps to make your game plan come true. Is there anything you don't feel totally comfortable with? If so how do you think you will overcome those things.

  2. Grade Cam is where you can have students scan answer sheets to multiple choice tests or homework assignments to be graded. It scans assignments, records grades, and then I can upload them to Infinite Campus (my gradebook).

  3. Meghan-

I was going to ask the same question about grade cam? Thanks for explaining. That sounds like a pretty neat program does your district supply you with the program or is it something you purchased on your own? It sounds like this program would save a lot of time when it comes to grading but does not seem to allow for open ended style questions. I guess you could have them complete those on a separate sheet of paper. That is neat that you are getting a smart board next year I wish my district would have gotten them instead of tablets which seem to break down every other day. What grade do you teach?

Like you although I have started my GAME plan the big effect will be next year and I am too looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

  4. I so hear you on the digital etiquette! There have been so many times when I have sent an e-mail out to the whole staff and it has a typo in it...ya never hear the end of it...like they don't make typos too! Anyway, I know I need to model good behavior for my students...but gosh it's hard!!! Shayne

  5. Digital etiquette, ten years ago who would have even put those two words together? I agree with you on it. We have teachers that constantly send out sensitive emails to our entire staff and I know they are not meant to. I have in the past accidentally sent emails to the wrong people. I think technology has made us think so fast that we often do not check what we are doing before we do it.
